Penmanship needs tools

My name is Jeffrey, and I have a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the National University of Singapore. Previously, I was the leader of the Singapore Fountain Pen Lovers (SFPL, the Singapore’s equivalent of FPN) community.

I'm excited to announce the launch of BlueDew Flex pen, a stainless steel full flex fountain pen that I've been developing for many months. As someone who enjoys flex calligraphy (but isn't naturally talented at it), I understand the struggle of finding a pen that has a good fine point, flexes well, and feels robust, linear and predictable on flex strokes. Gold nib flex pens can be prohibitively expensive, while steel options are often unsuitable for calligraphy. Vintage flex pens are often mislabelled, overpriced, and require additional care and maintenance. Meanwhile, dip pens aren't portable and can rust easily.

I created the BlueDew pen to be a suitable learning tool for budding calligraphers who want to practice their craft anywhere they go. In an age where digital communication dominates, I hope to help keep the art of good penmanship alive.

Addendum

In addition to flex nibs, I am adding customised nib grinds as well. My approach to customised nibs is to create well-defined line variation with a hint of feedback for better control. To achieve the objective, you may find my custom nibs to have a slightly different profile to the norm.

Through specially engineered laser cuts, BlueDew Pens is proud to be the only company offering multiple softness grades of flex nibs tailored to different writing styles.

Our flagship Wet Noodle nib is the result of extensive prototyping and fine-tuning—delivering the softest steel flex nib available today. In fact, it’s approximately 25% softer than the popular LPEF dip nib.

Thanks to the intrinsic resilience of steel, you’ll be hard-pressed to find even a gold nib that matches its flexibility and responsive snap-back.

Appreciation

I would like to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to the people who have contributed to my journey and helped me reach where I am today.

  • Ms Dorothy Lim, thank you for the calligraphy classes and beginner sessions have been instrumental in honing my skills in fine-tipped calligraphy;

  • Dr Ludwig Tan, thank you for your inspiring calligraphy and guidance in grinding nibs have been invaluable to me since my early days with SFPL;

  • Ms Leigh Reyes, thank you for opening up my world of fine-tipped calligraphy through your videos and meet-ups;

  • Singapore Fountain Pen Lovers members, thank you for generously sharing and letting me try countless pens, be it vintage or new, affordable or expensive.

Thank you for visiting BlueDew Pens, and I hope you'll enjoy using our products as much as I enjoyed creating them. Thank you to my supporters who have enjoyed my pens and have taken the time to spread the word through reviews, pictures and videos. Your support means everything to me.

Finally, I'd like to dedicate BlueDew Pens to my late father, who passed away on 10 August 2020. He left before I could manage to put everything together. BlueDew Pens was founded on 30 August 2020, as a tribute to my father.
